The 2008 Young Women of Distinction

Six Senior Girl Scouts were recognized as recipients of the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout can achieve. Recipients included Valerie Brey of Rockford, Lindsay Chandler of Rockford, Lindsey Hafley of Roscoe, Kristine Jones of Rockford, Sharon Khalil of Poplar Grove, and Samantha Roland of Roscoe.

To reach this milestone, these young women identified a community need and planned a community service project to address it – followed by at least 65 hours to bring it to completion.

The event also recognized girls who received a Girl Scout Scholarship in the amount of $500. Brey, Chandler, and Hafley also received a scholarship.

Girl Scout Scholarship Recipients included Margaret Blackburn of Rockton, Lucille Degener of Rockford, Christine Farris of Rockton, Monica Gummow of Rockton, Alayna Hale of Rockford, Caitlin Hanson of Rockford, Mackenzie Kelling of Rockton, Kristen Patterson of Rockford, and Stephanie Shipley of Caledonia.

The event also featured a humorous and inspiring keynote address by well-known MTV correspondent SuChin Pak.
